The map for Tall Ships 2006 is a combination of an existing drawing and generated drawings. The Navy Pier drawing existed but there were no drawings of the River Walk anywhere to be found. Due to the ever-changing high-density landscaping, the special requirements of a maritime event and the need to accommodate numerous sponsors and exhibits, several days were spent surveying this area, followed by weekly check-ups. For budgetary reasons, only the areas immediately effected by the event were surveyed.
The result was an event layout that provided for unrestricted flow of the public and staff in a very tight area and completely eliminated the problems that plagued the 2003 event.
The top map is the overview of the entire event site while the bottom map is one of the Zone maps created from the overview map.
